Fall Activities to Check Out in CT this Weekend

Pumpkin spice season is upon us!

It seems like the fall season feels shorter and shorter every year. With warm temperatures lingering through the end of September, it seems like the window of time to take advantage of fall activities goes by so quickly! Every year, I have a long list of things I want to make sure to do this season, and before I know it, fall’s over and my attention shifts to the holiday season. To be fair, a lot of this is my doing because I’m one of those people who starts decorating and listening to Christmas music on November 1….

But, that’s besides the point! Ha!

So to make sure that I take full advantage of the fall season and all the joy it has to offer, I made a list of top fall activities to experience in CT that I want to check off. If you’re looking for some ideas to get into the spirit of the season, give some of these a try and let me know what you think!

I also wanted to be sure to include activities that you can do for free or for a low budget, since there’s fun to be had that doesn’t require blowing the budget! I’ve compiled the list from least expensive to more pricey, so you can choose activities based on your budget.

Enjoy the fall foliage. Whether by car or by foot, there’s countless routes you can take to take in the beauty of the season and get some fresh air while you’re at it. CTVisit has a list of routes you can take by car, that they recommend for some spotting some of the most beautiful fall foliage in the state. Check out their list here.

On a nice day, take a stroll or a hike through one of CT’s best parks or trails. Some of my personal favorites include, Sleeping Giant in Hamden, Talcott Mountain in Simsbury, or the Mattabesett Trail that spans several towns.

Next up, explore a corn or sunflower maze.

Nothing says fall like wandering through a maze and getting lost! A corn maze is a great activity for a date, an afternoon with friends, or a day of family fun! Check out the Alice in Wonderland themed maze at The Farm, in Woodbury, in the day or by flashlight at night. Visit Bishop’s Orchards in Guilford, or Lyman Orchards in Middlefield, for not only a maze, but a range of fall activities to enjoy!

Visit a cider mill

Another fall classic… visit a cider mill! Take a trip to Riverview Farms in South Glastonbury to visit the petting zoo and to purchase some fall favorites, including apples and cider. Or, make a stop at a location top of my list this year… Hogan’s Cider Mill. They’re known for their drunken donut and drunken pumpkin drinks, that are definitely Instagram worthy!

For those who need a spooky vibe to really get into the fall spirit, check out one of the many haunted attractions featured in our state! If you’re looking for a ghost tour, visit the Spirits of Milford Ghost Walks or the Ghosts of New Haven tours. For some of the scariest stops in the state, visit the Dark Manor in Baltic for a scare in the mansion and graveyard, or the Trail of Terror in Wallingford, which is my personal favorite.

When it comes to fun fall activities to experience in CT, the opportunities are endless! Make the best of the transition into the colder months by experiencing all that CT has to offer. Maybe I’ll see you at some of these stops this weekend!
